A set-top box (STB) is an external device that delivers TV content, interfaces, and interactive features to in-room televisions. While STBs were once standard, many modern hospitality TVs now support system-on-chip (SoC) platforms that eliminate the need for separate hardware. Hotels may still use STBs in legacy systems or specialized deployments, but SoC solutions are increasingly preferred for simplicity and lower maintenance.
